Calling all Creston men! Kootenai Community Centre Society wants you for our upcoming virtual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event!
Two years ago, the town witnessed local men hobbling in bright red high heels one mile up and down Canyon Street for our first annual Walk A Mile event. This year we need to do things a little differently -- we’re going virtual!
We ask you to walk a mile in our red high heels, either by yourself or in your work cohort teams (following Covid protocol: please practice distancing and wear masks), then submit a video and/or photos of your walk. We will prepare a video montage of all our participants’ walks for public release.
Prizes will be awarded for the most pledges and most unique place to walk – and shoes will be provided if you need them (we’ll organize a location for pick-up).
Participating walkers are invited to register their walk beginning April 26, with video and photos submitted by June 6th; the awards ceremony is slated for June 19th. Contact Rhonda Kirby at rhondabruys@gmail.com to register.
Since 2001, men, women, and their families around the world have participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. Based on the old saying “You can't understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes,” the event is designed to raise awareness about the serious causes and effects of men's sexualized violence.
