                                                                                            History

In 2003, Kootenai Community Centre Society took on the operation and management of the Creston Valley Child Care Society (CVCCS).

In 1974, the CVCCS was incorporated as a non-profit society by parents and other community members in order to create and operate day care services for children and families in the Creston Valley. By 1976, the Society began providing full and partial day child care programs. Since 1980, the Society has operated the Teddy Bear Day Care Centre at its current location - 806 Cook St.. It is approximately 2000 square-feet and was designed specifically for child care - as the large lot provides a very positive setting for outdoor play and learning.

In the fall of 2002, the Society created the Grizzly Bear Out of School Care program; which currently provides after school, summer, and holiday care at our 617 11 Ave South (in the Creston Education Centre, Home Links) location. This program is staffed with certified child care educators, who meet school buses at the central drop point at PCSS. This enables children from outlying areas to have convenient access to the program. Snacks are offered and a variety of activities are organized.

The child care programs are inclusive and will accommodate different disabilities and challenges for special needs children with qualified staff, offering educational and social development activities for all.
